Welcome to ROTA. By using this application, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them
carefully.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using ROTA, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these
Terms, do not use the app.
2. License
2.1 Grant of License
ROTA is licensed under the MIT License. You are granted a free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to:
- Use the software for personal or commercial purposes
- Modify the source code
- Distribute copies of the software
- Sublicense and/or sell copies of the software

3. Description of Service
ROTA provides remote desktop functionality that allows you to:
- Stream your Mac's screen to an iPad
- Control your Mac remotely via touchscreen and keyboard
- Discover devices through iCloud
- Establish direct network connections
4. User Responsibilities
4.1 Authorized Use
You agree to:
- Only access computers you own or have explicit permission to control
- Comply with all local laws and regulations
- Not use ROTA for illegal or unauthorized purposes
- Secure your devices with appropriate passwords and access controls
4.2 Network Security
When using remote access features, you are responsible for:
- Securing your network connections
- Configuring router security settings
- Using strong authentication methods
- Implementing VPN or other security measures as appropriate
⚠️ Security Warning: Opening ports on your router exposes your Mac to the internet. Ensure
your Mac has a strong password, firewall enabled, and is running the latest security updates.
5. System Requirements
ROTA requires:
- Mac Host: macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later
- iPad Client: iPadOS 16.0 or later
- iCloud: Apple ID signed in on both devices (for discovery)
- Permissions: Screen Recording and Accessibility access on Mac
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
ROTA IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
We make no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Merchantability
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Non-infringement
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation
- Security of data transmission
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- We shall not be liable for any loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
- Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for ROTA (which is $0 for the open-source
version)
8. Privacy
Your use of ROTA is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Key points:
- No third-party servers are used
- All connections are peer-to-peer
- iCloud data is stored in your private container
- We do not collect analytics or track usage
9. Third-Party Services
9.1 Apple Services
ROTA uses Apple's frameworks and services:
- CloudKit: Device discovery (subject to Apple's terms)
- ScreenCaptureKit: Screen capture
- VideoToolbox: Video encoding/decoding
9.2 IP Detection Services
For public IP detection, ROTA may use third-party services:
- icanhazip.com
- ipinfo.io
- ifconfig.me
- api.ipify.org
These services are used solely to retrieve your public IP address for remote connectivity.
10. Modifications to the Service
We reserve the right to:
- Modify or discontinue features at any time
- Update the app without notice
- Change these Terms (with notice via GitHub)
11. Termination
You may stop using ROTA at any time by:
- Uninstalling the applications
- Deleting your iCloud data
These Terms will remain in effect until terminated by either party.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict
of law principles.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the ROTA developers from any claims, damages, or expenses arising
from:
- Your use of the software
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any rights of another party
14. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ROTA.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain
in full force and effect.
