Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how ROTA ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and protects your information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Device Information
ROTA collects the following device information to enable remote desktop functionality:
- Device Name: Your Mac's computer name for display in the client
- IP Addresses: Local and public IP addresses for network connectivity
- Screen Resolution: Display dimensions for video stream optimization
1.2 iCloud Data
ROTA uses Apple's CloudKit to store:
- Device records (name, IP addresses, port numbers)
- Connection history
Important: All iCloud data is stored in your private CloudKit container and is only accessible to you through your Apple ID. We do not have access to this data.
1.3 Network Data
During a remote session, ROTA transmits:
- Screen video stream (H.264 encoded)
- Cursor position data
- Input events (keyboard,mouse, trackpad)
2. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used solely for:
- Device Discovery: Finding your Mac on the network or through iCloud
- Remote Control: Streaming your Mac's display and transmitting input commands
- Connection Management: Maintaining stable connections between devices
Zero Third-Party Servers: ROTA establishes direct peer-to-peer connections between your devices. No video, input, or personal data passes through any third-party servers.
3. Data Storage
3.1 Local Storage
- Mac Host: Stores screen capture configuration and port settings locally
- iPad Client: Stores connection history and preferences locally
3.2 Cloud Storage
Device information is stored in your private iCloud container and synced across your devices signed in with the same Apple ID.
4. Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or transmit your data to any third parties.
ROTA operates entirely within your personal Apple ecosystem:
- Data stays between your Mac and iPad
- iCloud sync uses Apple's encrypted infrastructure
- No analytics or tracking services are used
- No advertisements
5. Data Security
5.1 Network Security
- Local Network: Connections within your LAN are as secure as your Wi-Fi network
- Remote Access: Uses standard TCP connections (consider using a VPN for enhanced security)
5.2 Access Control
- macOS requires explicit permission for Screen Recording and Accessibility features
- Only devices signed in with your Apple ID can discover your Mac via iCloud
6. Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: View your device information in the app settings
- Delete: Remove connection history at any time
- Disable: Turn off iCloud sync in iOS Settings → iCloud → ROTA
- Uninstall: Deleting the app removes all local data
7. Children's Privacy
ROTA is designed for general audiences and does not specifically target children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
